Why our body succumbs to little scars

There is a reasonable question to be asked after reading The theory of little scars: why didn’t nature make the human body powerful enough to beat these scars? After all, most people die due to their organisms deteriorating.

Well, nature isn’t perfect. Our species was given intelligence, but not immunity to scars. Hydras were given immunity to scars, but not an anus.

The vitriolic scars annihilating our species must be counteracted.

The butterfly effect and health

I can’t stand it when people stop themselves from making a decision by constantly asking “what if”. Just check the important factors and do it! But this doesn’t apply to health.

Eating an extra kiwi could extend my life by an hour. Blinking a few more times while reading could keep my eyesight from worsening.

It’s impossible to know which minuscule decisions could lead to drastic effects, and this is sombre. The only way to make them a non-issue is to fully control our health. We are still far from making this a reality.

The theory of little scars

Sometimes the world finds out about a famous person’s death. “Died from age”, the reporters say. I don’t understand how someone in their right mind can say such a thing. Age is just a number that shows how old the person is. It doesn’t impact anything directly but the amount of candles on a cake.

The more one lives, the more one has experienced—good and bad. By having a paper cut on my finger I might have let a couple of dangerous bacteriae into my body—nothing excruciating—but many such cuts are lethal. So is the story for any other disease.

People don’t die from age, they die from many little scars that pile up over time.

Internet-free Sundays

From June to December 31, 2017, I had an experiment going on, internet-free Sundays. It worked just like it sounds. I noticed that the internet is not unhealthy nor bad, but overwhelming. There were many things I procrastinated on to enjoy the web.

I have a similar sensation now, so I’m starting it again.

This is similar to why I don’t read the news: everything important will get to me one way or another.
